On Tuesday, 30 September 2025, Yayasan Dahetok Milah Lestari (YDML) conducted a training on albumin and salted fish production at the old church building in Enggol Jaya Village, Muting District, Merauke. The activity was carried out in collaboration with GPI Papua Klasis Muting and supported by a resource person from the Noken Production Center, SMK 5 Agribisnis dan Agroteknologi Merauke.
This training marked the establishment of the Albumin and Salted Fish Group, a new community group assisted by YDML under its Community Economic Development Program for Indigenous Papuans (Program Pengembangan Ekonomi Masyarakat Asli Papua). The initiative aims to build sustainable local enterprises and empower Indigenous communities through practical, skill-based economic activities.
The YDML team, together with the Klasis head and table resource person, departed from Merauke on Monday, 29 September 2025. The first day in Muting was used to introduce the program to the new group, which consisted of members of GPI Papua Klasis Muting, and to ensure that all tools and materials were fully prepared for the training the next day.
The training began with a session on the economic potential and production process of albumin and salted fish, which was followed by hands-on practice. This activity was guided by the trainer, Bapak Simon Sirene Sau, and was supported by YDML facilitators. The ten participants actively took part in the entire production process. They were encouraged to ask questions, share experiences, and learn proper techniques to ensure hygiene and product quality.
Through this activity, YDML continues its commitment to empowering Indigenous communities in Papua by promoting sustainable economic development, local skill strengthening, and community-led enterprise creation. The formation of the Albumin and Salted Fish Group in Muting represents an important step forward in improving household income and encouraging environmentally responsible livelihoods in southern Papua.
